Give your morning a jump-start with this quick, easy and nutritious smoothie!
I’m not a morning person. Never have been, and undoubtedly never will be. When I finally rise from the delirium of a prescription drug-induced sleep, I feel hungover, grumpy and not ready to face the day. Unfortunately, for those of us living with chronic conditions, we often have to take the first of many medications of the day, early in the morning. And because I am not a big breakfast person, I like to have a smoothie first thing in the morning. They are highly digestible, full of healthy goodness and look great to boot. So why not try it?
Start your day by energizing with a mix of natural sugars, vitamins, and minerals from the combination of strawberries, blueberries, spinach and honey, plus healthy fats and protein from the full-fat yoghurt to feel satiated. The high antioxidant content of the additional acai berry powder has many health advantages, including benefits for your brain and heart.
The fresh ginger is guaranteed to add the kick you need early in the morning. It is known that ginger protects from infection, inflammation and pain. You can increase the protein content, by also adding a spoonful of peanut butter, or add your favourite protein or collagen powder to the mix. Enjoy this smoothie on the go, or sip on it throughout the morning at your desk!
